Uniqueness and Existence of Equilibrium in Auctions with a Reserve Price
نویسندگان
چکیده
We prove existence and uniqueness of equilibrium for a general class of twoplayer bidding games. We apply our results to the first price auction, the combination of first and second price auctions, the war of attrition, the all pay auction, as well as combinations of the latter two auction forms. We also treat the first price auction without risk neutrality. Our results deal with the asymmetric, affiliated common values environment. In the case where signals are independent our results apply to all equilibria. When signals are not independent, our uniqueness results hold in the class of nondecreasing strategy equilibria. Partial Pooling at the Reserve Price in Auctions with Resale Opportunities
Two features common to many auctions are the use of reserve prices and the existence of secondary markets for the goods being sold. Even in simple symmetric settings, the combination of these features can preclude existence of an equilibrium in symmetric separating bidding strategies. With a reserve price sufficiently far below the maximum (endogenous) valuation, a symmetric equilibrium still e...
متن کاملSequentially Optimal Auctions
In auctions where a seller can post a reserve price but if the object fails to sell cannot commit never to attempt to resell it, revenue equivalence between repeated first price and second price auctions without commitment results. When the time between auctions goes to zero, seller expected revenues converge to those of a static auction with no reserve price. With many bidders, the seller equi...
متن کاملPay-as-Bid: Selling Divisible Goods to Uninformed Bidders
Pay-as-bid is the most popular auction format for selling treasury securities. We prove the uniqueness of pure-strategy Bayesian-Nash equilibria in pay-as-bid auctions where symmetrically-informed bidders face uncertain supply, and we establish a tight sufficient condition for the existence of this equilibrium. Equilibrium bids have a convenient separable representation: the bid for any unit is...
متن کاملSecond Price Auctions with Valuations and Participation Costs Both Privately Informed∗
This paper studies equilibria of second price auctions when valuations and participation costs are both private information with general distribution functions. We consider the existence and uniqueness of equilibrium in this general framework of two-dimensional types. It is shown that there always exists an equilibrium, and further there exists a unique symmetric equilibrium when all bidders ar...
متن کاملSecond Price Auctions with Two-Dimensional Private Information on Values and Participation Costs∗
This paper studies equilibria of second price auctions when values and participation costs are both privation information and are drawn from general distribution functions. We consider the existence and uniqueness of equilibrium. It is shown that there always exists an equilibrium for this general economy, and further there exists a unique symmetric equilibrium when all bidders are ex ante homo...
